2025 Easter Getaway! Day 1 (Thursday)

Thursday 17 April 2025

We departed meadows in two cars around 2.30pm. I had left my medications at Strathalbyn, however we decided to visit Kingston SE on our way to Naracoorte today, so I grabbed them on the way. 

The drive was pleasant. The sun was setting during the final leg as we approached Kingston SE. There was an extremely low layer of fine clouds, and then a bit of a gap and a high level layer of thick clouds. With the setting sun this resulted in a beautiful orange-pink on the top layer and slate grey-purple on the bottom layer. Beautiful! I wish I'd gotten a photo, but by the time I pulled over the clouds had moved. 

We stopped in Kingston next to the big lobster, which was closed. We ate subway for dinner. While there, Charlie leaned on his chair and it fell, causing him to bite his tongue. He was ok, thankfully, but it hurt a lot! After examining the chair it looked like the legs had been pushed in, causing easy tipping. 


After dinner I snuck over to the lobster for some happy snaps 🦞📸

Terrifying. 

Next up, a quick drive to our accommodation in Naracoorte. A great old house divided into three rooms and some large living spaces. There is even an outdoor stage, which the kids performed on. 

We grabbed a bedtime drink at the otr, stopping to grab photos along the way.

22 April 2025 I worked from the hotel today until late afternoon when I had a tour of the Engelbrecht  sinkhole booked. This sinkhole is in the middle of the town and is one that cave divers will use.  The tour wasn't super thrilling, as each cave is just a fairly small cavern from above the water. On the second cave, which we entered first, we saw the remains of rubbish that used to get dumped into the cave from the local inhabitants through an access tunnel that formed naturally.  The first cave, which we saw second, was much more impressive. The lack of rain has made diving too dangerous in much of the area. 2025 Easter Getaway! Day 3 (Saturday)

Saturday 19 April 2025 I was asleep early last night (before the kids even!). A good thing, as Lexie came knocking on my door around 6.45am. We decided to do some early morning exploration, but Nathan said he would rather sleep in.  We started with breakfast at Macca's - where Lexie quickly got her socks soaked from playing on the uncovered playground. No matter, Big W and 30 minutes later we were on our way to visit the Hell Hole.  Located a little way outside of Mt Gambier, the sink hole is a popular scuba diving location, although we didn't see any unfortunately. The drive there was short and lined with gorgeous radiata pines, kangaroos, and even an emu.  The viewing platform is a surprisingly short walk from the car park and we enjoyed mucking around in the bush, taking photos and reading the information signs.  The sink hole was much more impressive than I was expecting.
